This book was published to accompany the exhibition of work by John Piper (1903-1992) held at the Dulwich Picture Gallery from 1 April to 22 June 2003 which then toured to the Djanogly Art Gallery, Nottingham. Marking the centenary of Piper's birth in 1903, this book uncovers the shifts in Piper's early career while working largely on the south coast of England, from a lyrical, painterly style and lively use of collage, inspired by Picasso and Braque, into pure abstraction, in keeping with International Modernism.
