From the start of his career as a silversmith in 1955, Robert Welch (1929-2000) created two types of design either designs for unique objects to be made in his own workshop, or designs for industrial production, thus came about the title of the book, "Hand & Machine". Having trained at the Royal College of Art, one of Welch's first important commissions was to design a range of silver ware for Heals in 1965. The company still produces silverware today from its base in Chipping Campden, and is run by Welch's son and daughter. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall
