New edition. Navy blue cloth with titles in gilt on spine and a folding easel in gilt on front cover. Condition: Good, covers have some shelfwear, with bumping to cover corners and head and tail of spine. The cloth of the spine has a small nick approx three inches down from the top. The date 1904 is written to the top of the front endpaper, no other inscriptions. The title page is beginning to come loose, and there is a small tear to the tissue guard of the frontispiece. Binding cracked internally in one place, otherwise sound. 348pp. Seventeen lithographic plates with colour frontispiece, and numerous b/w illustrations within text. The book, written when George Barnard was the art teacher at Rugby school, includes chapters on elementary practice, trees, foreground studies, sketching tours, lectures and miscellaneous papers. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall
