London Macmillan 1941 Cloth Fair Poor Book
Green cloth with titles in gilt on spine. Condition: Fair, covers are lightly sunned around very edges, with a light bumping to spine. Endpapers lightly foxed. Dustjacket condition: Poor, quite sunned and soiled with a two inch tear to the jacket at top of spine. Generally shelfworn. Price-clipped. 287pp. Published during the second world war, this book supplies a plan for the reconstruction of British agriculture in the national interest. At the time of writing, only about 15 percent of the farms in the UK were larger than 150 acres, and most of the holdings were too small for the economical use of modern power machines. Sir Daniel Hall advocates the acquisition of agricultural land by the State in order to create generally larger units - he does not advocate State farming, rather to revitalise the existing principles of tenancy and to maintain private enterprise in the actual management of the land. 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall
