Just before the end of the 19th century, a new architectural style emerged in England. It was a combination of ant-Victorianisem, of a return to traditional building techniques and materials, and of a dream of a settled and ordered society In this book, the author considers the works of the great mainstream English architects such as Newton, Lutyens, Voysey and Baker. There are careful studies of individual houses such as Bullers Wood by Ernest Newton and Standen by Philip Webb.
