Condition: Good, with general soiling to covers and sunning to spine. Cover corners and head and tail of spine are lightly bumped and worn. Front pastedown has residue of previous owners bookplate which has been removed. Light foxing to endpapers and tissue guard to frontispiece. Internally the books is in very good clean condition, apart from a light watersplash mark to the top edge of the last ten pages of the index, and the binding is sound. 414pp. 173 b/w illustrations, inc. b/w photographic frontispiece. The author was head gardener at the gardens at Pitt White, Uplyme, Devon, and at the time of writing had in his care perhaps the most comprehensive collection of hardy bamboos in Europe. In it the author gives a straightforward consistent description of the features of each species.
