Previous owners name on front pastedown. Occasionally heavy, mainly light foxing throughout. Front hinge cracked, but holding firmly. Binding cracked internally in one other place, otherwise sound. This catalogue was produced to accompany an exhibition of tapestry designs by Henry Moore held at the Victoria and Albert Museum from 15th July to 25th August 1980. The Tapestry Weaving studio at West Dean house began in 1976, and this exhibition included the first tapestries produced by it. The eight tapestries in the exhibition were translations into wool from a series of drawings by Henry Moore, woven by six weavers (Dilys Stinson, Alison Innes, Valerie Power, Patricia Taylor, Joan Baxter and Rosemary Brambley) working under the direction of Eva-Louise Svensson. The Grand Tour, the journey made by noblemen and gentlemen of many nations to Italy in search of antique and modern culture, reached its apogee in the 18th century and came to an end with the Napoleonic Wars ni the 1790s. This catalogue looks at this aspect of European civilisation in the age of the Enllightenment from the point of view of several countries, and includes the work of foremost artists of the period, including Canaletto, Pompeo Batoni and Joshua Reynolds.

This catalogue takes as its point of departure four rooms designed during his most creative period, the years between 1902 and 1913. The rooms were in residences belonging to the following people: Max Biach, Dr.Johannes Salzer, Margaret and Jerome Stonborough and Ferdinand and Berthe Hodler.
