Half leather with decorative marbled paper covered boards, with titles in gilt on spine. Marbled endpapers. Condition: Good, described as such becaused the covers are in fair condition, but internally the contents are in very good condition. The leather of the spine is rubed, the boards have generaly rubbind and shelfwear as to the leather covered cover corners, which are worn and frayed. The front hinge is nearly separated from spine, being held in place by one binding cord. Rear hinge holding firmly. Light foxing to inner endpapers. Text clean apart from occasional browning to page edges. The book includes engravings of the monuments of thirty noble personages from different periods of history in chronological order from Eleanor, Queen of Edward the First in 1290, to Sir Anthony Browne, in 1548 4to - over 9" - 12" tall

Softcover.(Stapled catalogue). Condition: Good, with light shelfwear to covers. Light foxing to corner of front cover. Binding sound, text clean, no inscriptions. Light sunning to text edges and light rusting to staples in centre. 16pp. 6 b/w plates. This catalogue was produced to accompany the exhibition held in Edinburgh during the International Festival, 1962. Conceived by William Morris and the 3rd Marquess of Bute, from 1912 to 1940 (apart from the period of the First World War) the company was under the personal supervision of the 4th marquess of Bute and produced monumental Scottish historical tapestries. In 1946, after the second World War the design policy of the company changed, and many contemporary artists were commissioned, including Edward Bawden, Louis Le Brocquy and Graham Sutherland. Later, Sir Basil Spence commissioned a tapestry for the new Coventry Cathedral, although the Cathedral committee turned it down, and the work was later carried out in France. Full black leather binding . All edges gilt. Condition: Fair, binding sound, covers are in good condition, with the patina of use. Front and back endpapers are lightly browned, and have the dates of births and deaths of several members of the Taylor family from Bolton, (also written as Bolton in the Moor) Lancashire, the earliest birth date being 1813. The first section of text at the begiining of the book (after the calendar) is the order of Morning Prayer. The first twelve pages are quite soiled at the bottom right edges of the text, with chunks missing from the lower right edges of the first ten pages, getting progressively smaller. 12mo - over 6" - 7" tall

Previous owners name on front endpaper in pencil with the date 1945. Binding sound. 62pp. 21 collotype plates plus frontispiece portrait of Samuel Palmer. This edition, printed at the Baynard Press, was limited to 375 copies, of which this is no.32. In his preface, the author states that the object of the book was to record the etchings of Samuel Palmer (1805-1881) in all their states, and to bring under a single cover all other important information relating to their history. In this book, the author tells the story of John Tradescant and his son, who were royal gardeners in the times of Charles I and Charles II. As well as being plant-hunters, they created the Musaeum Tradescantium, the first "Cabinet of Curiosities" to be open to the public in England. The contents of the museum were later acquired by the wealthy collector Elias Ashmole, who in 1691 gave it to Oxford University as the nucleus of the newly founded Ashmolean Museum.
