Softcover. Condition: Very good, with light shelfwear to covers. Previous owners name neatly written at top of front endpaper. Binding sound. 92pp. Many b/w illustrations. The collection of work by Ernest Gimson, Ernest and Sidney Barnsley and Peter Waals described in this catalogue was started in 1919, the year of Gimson's death, when his widow presented to Leicester City Museum architectural drawings by Gimson for the new Federal Capital of Australia. Over the next twenty years several important gifts were received from Sydney Gimson and the nucleus of a fine collection was formed. This catalogue includes sections on furniture, chairs, plasterwork, metalwork, other designs and architecture, with an initial section on the history of the group.

With a memorial notice by the Rev.E.F.Russell. Second edition. Pale green cloth with titles in gilt on front cover and spine and image in gilt of a sundial on the front cover. Condition: Fair to good, govers are generally lightly shelfworn and sunned, with heavier sunning to spine. Head and tail of spine also guite shelfworn and bumped. Browning and foxing to endpapers. Text bright and clean. Inner rear joint beginning to wear a little, otherwise binding sound, no inscriptions. 215pp. Sixteen illustrations. Chapters include sections on The Theory of the Garden, Art in a Garden and the "Landscape Garden". John Dando Sedding (1838-1891) was a church architect in Britain, working on new buildings and repair work, with an interest in a 'crafted Gothic' style. He was an influential figure in the Arts and Crafts movement, many of whose leading designers studied in his offices. They included Ernest Gimson, Ernest Barnsley and Herbert Ibberson. His 1889 lecture, "The Architectural Treatment of Gardens", was influential in the revival espoused by Reginald Blomfield, of "Jacobean" features such as terraces, covered walks, bowling greens, clipped yew hedges and topiary, which would combine with "cottage garden" elements in the Arts and Crafts gardens of 1890-1915.
