Softcover.(Stapled catalogue). Condition: Good, with light shelfwear to covers. Light foxing to corner of front cover. Binding sound, text clean, no inscriptions. Light sunning to text edges and light rusting to staples in centre. 16pp. 6 b/w plates. This catalogue was produced to accompany the exhibition held in Edinburgh during the International Festival, 1962. Conceived by William Morris and the 3rd Marquess of Bute, from 1912 to 1940 (apart from the period of the First World War) the company was under the personal supervision of the 4th marquess of Bute and produced monumental Scottish historical tapestries. In 1946, after the second World War the design policy of the company changed, and many contemporary artists were commissioned, including Edward Bawden, Louis Le Brocquy and Graham Sutherland. Later, Sir Basil Spence commissioned a tapestry for the new Coventry Cathedral, although the Cathedral committee turned it down, and the work was later carried out in France. It examines how the photographers Brassai, Capa, Kertesz, Moholy-Nagy and Mukacsi revolutionised photojournalism and art photography in the first half of the 20th century, and is illustrated with their major works and a number by their contemporaries, in many cases using vintage prints from Hungarian collections.

This catalogue was produced to accompany the exhibition held at The City Museum and Art Gallery, Birmingham from 11 February to 21 March 1982 which then toured to the Fine Art Society, London. It was the first exhibition devoted to all aspects of the work of Arthur and Georgie Gaskin, and the first covering Arthur's artistic output since the Memorial Exhibition of 1929. Gaskin (1862-1928) and his wife Georgie Gaskin (1868-1934) were members of the Birmingham Group of Artist-Craftsmen, which sought to apply the principles of the Arts and Crafts movement across the decorative arts. Like many of the group, Gaskin studied at the Birmingham School of Art under Edward R. Taylor and later taught there. Scarce.

The collection of work by Ernest Gimson, Ernest and Sidney Barnsley and Peter Waals described in this catalogue was started in 1919, the year of Gimson's death, when his widow presented to Leicester City Museum architectural drawings by Gimson for the new Federal Capital of Australia. Over the next twenty years several important gifts were received from Sydney Gimson and the nucleus of a fine collection was formed. This catalogue includes sections on furniture, chairs, plasterwork, metalwork, other designs and architecture, with an initial section on the history of the group.
