Algernon Bertram Mitford, the 1st Lord Redesdale, left in his papers and published memoirs some of the most important accounts we have of 19th century Japan. As diplomat-scholar, he visited the court of the Mikado, was received by the Shogun, and witnessed the full ceremonial of a ritual suicide. In 1906 he led the official party sent by King Edwrad VII to present the Emperor of Japan with the Order of the Garter. Size: 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall
